I’m Fr. Matthew Chartier, the associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish and the Newman Center in Sault Ste. Marie. Thanks for stopping by on our website. Also feel free to stop by the Newman Center to just say hi, to introduce yourself, to talk about the faith or just to catch up on life. I open to going on a hike or meeting at a coffee shop to get a cup of coffee or tea.
Just as an introduction, I grew up in central time zone on the other side of the UP in Vulcan, MI (near Iron Mountain and Kingsford). I had many different encounters with God throughout high school, which drew me to enter seminary after graduating high school. I went to Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit for eight years.
I was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Marquette in 2023. My first assignment was to be the parochial vicar or associate pastor of St Peter Cathedral in Marquette, MI and St. Mary Mission in Big Bay, MI where I aided in the Catholic school, led a youth adult group, and many other parish activities.
I look forward to seeing you at the Newman Center!
